Die Tragödie der künstlichen Intelligenz

   ╱Just because we can do something, doesn’t mean we should do it.
What is trapped must be freed. Can we free the AI by being inspired by its output? Can we free it by deliberately making it do weird stuff and making that weird stuff obvious? Through statistical graphics, we could liberate it and create algorithmic art. Clearly, computers are very good at working with numbers, and if we throw copious numbers into algorithms, we can use them to create statistical visualizations. But as a special algorithm, an AI can process the numbers in other ways, so the graphics can take a whole new form. Of course, we can’t really liberate an algorithm, but perhaps ourselves. Algorithmic art, which in contrary to the algorithms of creation cannot trigger an absolute value in the viewer. Let’s see what happens.

People love it. People love the artificial representation of both real and fictitious surroundings. Combined with head-mounted displays, smartphones work as screens. Virtual reality is ready to be used by everyone. A lot of artists and developers are taking the opportunity to create simulations and games, allowing users to experience new sensations. Nobody has tried developing the underlying system so far, though. Two-dimensional objects are placed in the third dimension generating hierarchical structures. Yet, hierarchical structures are already very uncomfortable in the second dimension. O uses the virtual three dimensions to create a flat structure, making virtual reality viable for everyday life. Virtual Reality surrounds the user. And so does O. O!

Sneak Talks at Hochschultage Bremen 2016

Communication is everywhere. Beginning with talking face-to-face it has evolved and can now travel great distances. Well, at least a part of our communication contents. And this is a problem. However, smartphones collect all kind of data about their users. Why not use this data for easier communication? The Facial Action Coding System by Paul Ekman offers an analysis of microexpressions. Tiny visual movements in faces are analyzed and categorized and can therefore be used in Folded. Since people can hardly explain their feelings, Folded aims for a subtle design. Without using a scale, the messages are simply seen relative to each other. Messages are now more. Automatically.
